NEET Admit Card: How to Download It and What to Check
The NEET admit card is the entry pass NTA issues to every registered candidate, and without a printed copy in your hand you do not get into the exam hall. You download it yourself from the NEET portal with your own login. NTA does not post it and will not print a spare at the centre. In the 2026 cycle it appeared exactly seven days before the paper, both times the exam was held. This guide covers when it is released, how to download it, the seven things to check the minute the PDF opens, and what travels to the centre with it.
What is the NEET admit card?
The NEET admit card is a candidate-specific document NTA issues for one sitting of NEET (UG), carrying your application number, roll number, photograph, centre address, reporting time and the rules you must follow inside the hall. The Information Bulletin for NEET (UG) 2026 gives it a whole chapter, and the first line is the one people skip: the card is issued provisionally.
Provisionally means NTA has not finished checking you. Issue of the card "shall not necessarily mean acceptance of eligibility", and your eligibility is scrutinised again at later stages of admission. The card gets you into the room. It does not promise you a seat.
Two other lines in the NEET admit card chapter decide your exam day. A candidate without a valid card is not allowed into the hall by the Centre Superintendent. And you cannot turn up on a different date, time or centre from the one printed on it. Whatever the card says is the only version that counts.
When is the NEET admit card released?
Not on a date printed in the bulletin. The dates-at-a-glance table for NEET (UG) 2026 fixes the application window, the correction window and the exam day, but against "Downloading of Admit Cards from the NTA website" it simply says: to be announced later on the website. The NEET admit card release date arrives in its own public notice, and so does the city slip.
Here is what happened in the 2026 cycle.

Seven days, twice. That is a pattern worth planning around, not a promise, so treat one week as your working assumption and watch neet.nta.nic.in from about three weeks out. The NEET 2027 exam date and calendar guide sets out the rest of the cycle.
How fast is the rush? NTA's notice of 17 June 2026 recorded around 16 lakh candidates, roughly 1.6 million, downloading the card released three days earlier. Servers are busiest in the first 48 hours, so a day's patience makes the download calmer.
Is the exam city intimation slip the same as the NEET admit card?
No. The Examination City Intimation Slip only names the city your centre will be in, so you can arrange travel and a place to stay. It carries no centre address, no roll number and no reporting time. NTA's notices say in plain words that the slip is not the admit card, and that the NEET admit card is issued later.
The distinction matters because the slip arrives first and looks official enough to relax about. In 2026 the gap between the two documents was fourteen days for the main paper and seven for the re-examination, and the notice of 12 April 2026 recorded the scale of it: 552 cities inside India and 14 abroad. Knowing the city is useful. Knowing the building only comes with the NEET admit card.

How do you download the NEET admit card, step by step?
Five minutes, assuming you still know your password.
- Open the official portal at neet.nta.nic.in. Nowhere else. Every year people hand their login to a lookalike site.
- Find the admit card link on the candidate activity board. It appears only once NTA has released the card.
- Sign in with your application number and password, or application number and date of birth, depending on which login NTA has enabled.
- Open the PDF and read all of it, including the instruction pages at the back. They repeat the rules the invigilator will enforce.
- Print it in colour on clean A4 paper, along with the proforma page that comes with it. Print two or three spares and keep them apart. One wet or torn sheet on exam morning is not fixable.
- Paste a passport-size photograph, the same one you uploaded, in the box on the card. Carry a second loose copy for the attendance sheet, and stick the postcard-size 4 inch by 6 inch colour photo on the proforma.
Set up a backup in advance. If you consented to data storage when you applied, NTA also pushes the NEET admit card to your DigiLocker account, with the confirmation page, OMR sheet and score card. DigiLocker is the government's Aadhaar-linked document wallet, and it is how you recover a lost application number, the commonest reason a login fails.
Do not mutilate the card, write on it, or change any entry. The bulletin bans all three, and a centre can read an altered card as tampering.
What should you check on your NEET admit card the moment you open it?
Open your confirmation page next to it and compare, the day the card arrives rather than the night before the exam. The helpline runs 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, so you want working hours in hand.
- Name, parents' names and date of birth, spelled as on the certificates you will show at counselling.
- Photograph and signature, which must be the images you uploaded. A mismatch is the discrepancy the bulletin addresses.
- Category and PwBD status, because these travel all the way through to the merit list.
- The exam date and reporting time. You cannot appear on any other date or timing than the one allotted to you.
- The full centre address, then find it on a map the same day. Not the same evening.
- Roll number and application number, which you write on the OMR sheet under time pressure.
- The medium of the question paper, since that choice cannot be changed after the correction window closes.
If everything matches, print your spares and stop looking at it. If it does not, the next section is for you. Either way, a correct NEET admit card is not the end of exam-day preparation: the dress code and barred-items rules stop more candidates at the gate than paperwork does.
What do you carry to the centre along with the NEET admit card?
Five things. The bulletin is blunt: candidates who do not bring them will not be allowed to sit the exam.

The APAAR ID there is the academic identity number now issued to school students, and the APAAR ID explainer covers how to generate one. Anything not on this list stays at home. There is no cloakroom, and a barred item inside the centre premises counts as unfair means.
The clock printed on the NEET admit card matters as much as the address. For the 2026 paper it ran like this.
Look at the left end of that line. Reporting opens at 11:00 AM for a paper that starts at 2:00 PM, and the gate shuts at 1:30 PM for good. Candidates in customary dress report by 12:30 PM so frisking does not run late. The bulletin tells parents to check the centre a day earlier, which sounds fussy until you have watched someone argue with a guard at 1:35 PM.
What if the download fails or a detail on the card is wrong?
Call, do not panic, and do not skip the exam. NTA runs a helpline on 011-40759000 and 011-69227700 between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM, plus the cycle-specific NEET UG email printed on its notices.
NTA has shown it will work around a blockage rather than let people miss the paper. In June 2026 candidates were stuck behind a bank-details form built into the download flow, and the notice of 17 June 2026 opened a second path so anyone could take the NEET admit card first and finish the bank confirmation later.
If the card and your confirmation page disagree on particulars, photograph or signature, the bulletin's instruction is reassuring: contact the helpline, then appear with the card you already downloaded. NTA corrects its record afterwards. You do not lose the attempt over a typo.
Two limits, though. No duplicate NEET admit card is issued at the centre, so arriving without one is not recoverable. And no card is issued at all where the application was incomplete, say an unsigned form or an unclear photograph, which is why the application form guide dwells on the upload specifications.
How long should you keep the NEET admit card?
Until you are holding a medical seat. The bulletin tells candidates to preserve the NEET admit card till their admission to undergraduate medical courses, in good condition, for future reference. Counselling authorities verify documents months after the exam, and the card ties your roll number to the score card and the rank you are claiming a seat with.

Five NEET admit card mistakes that keep repeating
- Treating the city slip as the card. Travel gets booked, then the card arrives with a reporting time the plan does not fit.
- One printout. It rains, the sheet tears, the ink runs. Three copies cost ten rupees.
- No pasted photograph. The centre will not lend you one, and the attendance sheet needs its own.
- Reading the address instead of locating it. A suburb you have never visited, found for the first time at 1:20 PM, is how a year gets lost.
- Deleting the file after the exam. You need it at counselling, sometimes twice.
