Courses After NEET 2027 Other Than MBBS: The Full List

The courses after NEET run much wider than MBBS. One NEET (UG) score — the single national entrance test conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), the government body that conducts the exam, can also open the door to BDS (dentistry), the AYUSH degrees BAMS, BUMS, BSMS and BHMS, veterinary science, and certain B.Sc. Nursing seats. Different councils and authorities control these seats, often on different calendars and through different portals. Most students discover this in the week their counselling closes. This guide lays out every major stream, who runs it, and what each course trains you to become.

What are the courses after NEET, other than MBBS?

The NEET (UG) introduction published by the NTA provides the clearest starting point. It states that NEET (UG) is the common test for admission to undergraduate medical education and, under two separate central Acts, for BAMS, BUMS, BSMS and BHMS as well. Dentistry and veterinary science also sit alongside these options.

Here are the major courses after NEET in one place, along with the body that handles each set of seats.

The last two need particular care. B.Sc. Nursing is not universally a NEET-based admission route, while B.Pharm-ITRA is a specific AACCC counselling category rather than a general rule that NEET is required for every B.Pharm course.

Why is this list suddenly everywhere in August 2026?

Because all three major counselling systems are moving at once. MCC's UG Round 1 for MBBS, BDS and B.Sc. Nursing is already underway, the Ayush Admissions Central Counseling Committee has its 2026 UG schedule pending, and the Veterinary Council of India opens registration on 18 August 2026. Three portals, three deadlines, one score.

That collision is exactly why the courses after NEET are worth understanding in Class 11 or Class 12, rather than during the week your counselling closes. The MCC UG counselling page confirms that the MBBS and BDS process is running now. The AACCC portal says its UG counselling schedule "will be available soon". The VCI counselling portal has already published its full round calendar.

If you are a 2027 aspirant, you are watching this year's cohort walk the same path you will likely walk in about ten months. Understanding the courses after NEET now costs nothing. Learning about them in June can be expensive.

How many students qualify, and how many All India Quota seats exist?

Close to 20 lakh candidates appeared for NEET (UG) 2026, of whom 11.21 lakh qualified, across 5,440 centres in 551 Indian cities and 14 cities abroad. More than 58% of the qualified candidates are women. These qualifiers are competing for medical, dental, AYUSH, veterinary and nursing seats, not for MBBS seats alone.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) declared the NEET (UG) 2026 results on 16 July 2026. Close to 20 lakh candidates appeared for the examination, and 11.21 lakh qualified for admission to undergraduate medical, dental, AYUSH and allied programmes.

Roughly 56 out of every 100 candidates cleared the qualifying percentile.

Is BDS still worth it after NEET 2027?

BDS is the Bachelor of Dental Surgery — a clinical degree that makes you a dentist, registered with the Dental Council of India. It sits inside the same MCC counselling as MBBS, so you fill both in one choice list. Its cut-offs run lower than MBBS, which is why it is the most common second choice.

The honest version: BDS is not "failed MBBS". It is a different job. A dentist works with a narrow, technical, procedure-heavy field where manual skill matters more than in most of general medicine, and where private practice starts earlier and costs less to set up than a hospital career. Students who enjoy the hands-on parts of biology and dislike long ward rounds often prefer it.

The equally honest version: the market for dentists in Indian metros is crowded, and graduates who do well are usually the ones who specialise or build a practice patiently. Of all the courses after NEET, this is the one students most often pick by default. Go in because the work suits you, not because it shares a counselling portal with MBBS.

What do BAMS, BUMS, BSMS and BHMS actually teach?

These are the four major AYUSH undergraduate degrees: BAMS (Ayurveda), BUMS (Unani), BSMS (Siddha) and BHMS (Homoeopathy). Each is a full undergraduate medical degree within its respective system, with its own regulator, clinical training and registration requirements. NEET (UG) is the compulsory entrance examination for admission to all four.

Admission to All India Quota (AIQ) seats is conducted through the Ayush Admissions Central Counseling Committee (AACCC), under the Ministry of Ayush. AACCC handles counselling for BAMS, BSMS, BUMS and BHMS seats across government and government-aided colleges, deemed universities, central universities and national institutes. It also handles B.Pharm (Ayurveda) at the Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda.

What students most often get wrong is assuming these are lighter courses after NEET. They are not shorter, and they are not easier. The curriculum includes anatomy, physiology, pathology and clinical training, alongside the classical texts and principles of the respective system. What differs is the therapeutic framework you practise within and, ultimately, the kinds of patients and clinical settings you encounter.

Can a NEET score get you into veterinary science?

Yes. B.V.Sc & A.H. — Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry — is admitted on NEET (UG) marks, and the Veterinary Council of India runs online counselling for the 15 per cent VCI quota. It is a statutory body under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, and its seats are entirely separate from MCC's.

The VCI has published its round calendar for the 2026-27 academic year, and it is the clearest example of why the courses after NEET need to be tracked as a set rather than one at a time. Veterinary registration opens after MBBS allotments have already begun.

Candidates who were allotted a seat in Round 1 or Round 2 — whether or not they reported to the college, are not eligible for the Stray Round. That single rule catches people who treat the stray round as a safety net across the courses after NEET.

Veterinary science is also the one stream on this list that leads somewhere genuinely different: livestock health, public-health work on zoonotic disease, food safety, wildlife, dairy, and government animal-husbandry services. If you like biology more than you like hospitals, look at it seriously rather than as a fallback.

Where does B.Sc Nursing fit into the courses after NEET?

Partly. Most B.Sc Nursing admissions in India run on state and university entrance tests rather than NEET. But two NEET-linked routes exist: MCC's UG counselling includes specified B.Sc Nursing seats in its 2026 Round 1 seat matrix, and Military Nursing Service aspirants must qualify NEET for the four-year B.Sc Nursing course at Armed Forces Medical Service hospitals.

The NTA states the MNS rule plainly: the NEET score is used for shortlisting candidates for selection to that four-year course. Outside those two routes, check your own state's nursing admission notification. Nursing is the stream where the rules vary most from state to state, and where a national blog post is least likely to match what your state actually does this year.

The courses after NEET run on three clocks, not one

Every year, students lose seats not because their score was low but because they registered on one portal and assumed the others would wait. They do not. MCC, AACCC and VCI publish independent schedules, charge independent fees, and enforce independent reporting deadlines.

Look at the 2026 calendar. MCC's UG process was already deep into Round 1 by mid-August. VCI opened registration on 18 August. AACCC had not published its UG schedule at all by 13 August. A student holding a mid-range rank who wants to keep BAMS and B.V.Sc open alongside BDS has to monitor three sites simultaneously, in the same fortnight, while also arranging documents.

There is also a money trap. The VCI stray round alone requires a payment of ₹50,000 for General, OBC and EWS candidates and ₹25,000 for SC, ST and PH candidates. Families who have not budgeted for parallel counselling fees end up choosing on cash flow rather than on career fit.

What should a NEET 2027 aspirant actually do this year?

Almost nothing about this changes your study plan. Read the list once, then go back to work. The point of knowing the courses after NEET early is that it removes panic from June, not that it adds tasks to September. Still, a few things are worth doing now.

1. Confirm you are eligible for all of them, not just MBBS. Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Biotechnology with English is the common requirement — check the specifics in our NEET 2027 eligibility criteria guide before your Class 11 subject choice hardens.
2. Bookmark the three portals now: mcc.nic.in, aaccc.gov.in and vci.admissions.nic.in. Read this year's schedules to see the real shape of the calendar.
3. Talk to your family about parallel counselling fees a year in advance, so a registration deposit is never the reason a door closes.
4. Keep your documents in one folder — Class 10 and 12 marksheets, category certificate, domicile, Aadhaar and photographs. Every one of these portals asks for the same set.

6. Then stop reading about counselling and go back to your NCERT and mock schedule. The score is the only part of this you control in 2026-27.
